Overview:
Day tour to Mostar from Dubrovnik to see its famous bridge and the picturesque village of Pocitelj, famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Description:
Pick up from your Dubrovnik hotel by your private car and driver and head to the city of Mostar with its graceful and instantly recognisable bridge over the River Neretva which has been painstakingly reconstructed since the siege of the early 1990s with the original blocks of stone recovered from the river, and is a symbol of reconciliation and international co-operation, with Bosnians living on one side and Croats on the other, as the Turkish and the Christians have always done here. Meet your English-speaking local guide here for a 1-hour walking tour. With its unique blend of Turkish Ottoman and grand 19th century European architecture, Mostar is fascinating to walk around, and the old town has loads of cafes to relax in afterwards. There are coppersmiths, artists and antique dealers, mosques and churches, and Tepa Market sells delicious local pomegranates, figs and honey.
Continue to Pocitelj, another oriental town half an hour away. Pocitelj grew up surrounded by defensive walls as it occupied a strategic location on the river, and inside these walls are the fortress, bazaar, baths and inns, the madrassa and mosque, soup kitchen, school and houses – a complete town that has been carefully restored since the war. It is particularly noted for its artists who come here from all around the world. Both Mostar and Pocitelj are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and make a fascinating excursion.
