Description:
Off-the-beaten-track in Istria
Meet your car and driver at your hotel or cruise ship in Rovinj, for a superb shore excursion to Istria’s heartlands, firstly to the town of Pazin and its famous Ethnographic Museum in the once-formidable medieval castle. Here are displayed costumes, instruments, farm implements, and there is even an exhibition of church bells. If you are here on the first Tuesday of the month you will also be able to visit Pazin’s traditional market. Continue to the tiny village of Beram to see a real ‘hidden gem’, St Mary’s Church of Skrljine and its unique ‘dance of death’ fresco, before arriving in the region’s favourite village, Motovun. Perched on a hilltop and surrounded by its old walls along which you can walk, filled with medieval houses, churches and galleries, and gorgeous views – it’s a romantic and fairytale place, and your guide can show you around St Stephen’s Church, the Municipal Palace, the quaint alleyways and corners, and take you to the best viewpoints, before returning you to Rovinj.
