Description:
Step into the past on this unique day tour from Guilin
Pick up from your Guilin hotel and drive 40 miles north of Guilin to a masterpiece of ancient engineering, the Ling Canal, constructed 200 years before Christ. Nowadays it is an attractive park with bridges and trees, and the canal as a centrepiece, and you can take a boat trip on the canal to the nearby town of Xing’an. Xing’an’s bustling Water Street is criss-crossed by pretty bridges, benches, picturesque houses with carved gables and red lanterns – there is always something to catch the eye. Continue to an archetypal Chinese village, built in the Ming dynasty, Qin village. Qin illustrates the daily life of millions of ordinary Chinese from 300 years ago to now. Situated along an almost deserted country road, amidst paddy fields and hills, Qin was once a prosperous place, its houses ornately decorated with carved doorways and pediments with delicate bas de relief, sweeping, curved rooftops, and even a theatre. Nowadays the once-grand courtyard buildings are crumbling and bare, shared by several families, almost forgotten – but immeasurably picturesque.
