Description:
Enjoy the Elephanta Caves after a morning city tour in Bombay
Meet your English-speaking local guide with a car and driver at your Mumbai hotel and set off on your private Bombay tour. Visit Mani Bhavan which is a house where Mahatma Ghandi stayed and now a museum dedicated to his life, and the Prince of Wales Museum. Along Marine Drive see the Afghan Church and Haji Ali Mosque, and at Dhobi Ghat see thousands of people washing their clothes in the river. See Crawford Market and see Flora Fountain, the Clock Tower, and the impressive Gateway of India before taking a refreshing boat ride of around 7 miles out to Elephanta Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the island are caves in which highly-skilled and intricate rock carvings were made 1500 years ago of various Hindu deities, and those of Lord Shiva are particularly impressive. The caves themselves have been hewn into shrines, courtyards flanked by columns and great halls, and represent a high point in artistic and architectural achievement of the time. After a very pleasant and refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai’s crowded streets, rejoin the boat for the return cruise to the docks, and return to your hotel.
