Description:
Private day trip from Ho Chi Minh City to the notorious Cu Chi Tunnels
Pick up from your Saigon hotel by private car and local guide and drive 40 miles northwest of the city to explore the secret underground hideouts used during the Vietnam War. They were constructed by the North Vietnamese Communists who had infiltrated the American-held anti-Communist South Vietnam by travelling along the perilous Ho Chi Minh Trail from the north with supplies of food and weapons. The tunnels can be less than 3ft wide and 3ft high in places, but people could live here for weeks on end, as all necessary basic facilities were here – hospitals, toilets, dormitories and kitchens – on several levels, and all underground. Please note the tunnels can be claustrophobic, sweaty, and a bit grimy.
Located close to the Cu Chi Tunnels is the Wildlife at Risk (WAR) rescue centre. The centre is the first multi-species wildlife hospital and holding facility in southern Vietnam and its main purpose is to help stop the endangered wildlife trade in Vietnam. You’ll be taken on a guided tour through the centre where educational displays and information about the country’s biodiversity can be seen as well as some of the animals themselves (though no contact with the animals will be made). This optional extension has a supplement of US$15 per person ($25 for solo traveller) payable locally.
