Description:
Private day tour in Albania to Durres and Kruja from Tirana
Meet your English-speaking local guide, car and driver at your hotel in Tirana for a full-day private excursion to Durres and Kruja. Head west to the coast to the ancient Greek and Roman city, Durres, a vital port on the Adriatic and starting point of the Via Egnatia, an ancient trading route between Rome and Istanbul. Admire the great amphitheatre that could seat 15,000, see the remains of the Forum and the thermal baths and visit the Archaeological Museum to see more artefacts from the Greek, Roman and Byzantine eras. Leave Durres and drive inland to Kruja, around 30 minutes’ away. Here is an impressive medieval castle that houses an Ethnographic Museum in a typical Ottoman house which displays how citizens lived for 300 years, with costumes and jewellery also on show. The famous turkish bazaar of Kruja has cobbled streets and wooden shops selling traditional goods, and after a stroll through it arrive at a small tekke, a temple built in 1789 for a religious sect called Bektashi who are popular here.
