Pick-up from your hotel for a fascinating private Beijing excursion and drive around 70 miles out of the city to Chuandixia village, around 3 hours away. Situated on a forested hillside, Chuandixia is a beautiful example of a typical old Chinese village dating from the Ming and Qing dynasties – there are around 600 houses that are all preserved as national cultural relics, but families still live in them so it is very much a living museum. You can enter the houses and see exactly how the people have lived here for centuries. Take a walk through the woods to admire the lovely scenery. Please note that the lanes in Chuandixia are often steep and unpaved, and you should wear comfortable shoes.
