Description:
The Best of Beijing city tour
One of the best one day Beijing tours arranged just for you. Pick up from your Beijing hotel and drive to Tiananmen Square, a vast public space designed as a grand place where the people could congregate to admire and show their loyalty to the Communist regime. See the imposing Great Hall of the People and Mao’s Mausoleum where Chairman Mao has lain embalmed on public display for 30 years. Walk through the Gate of Heavenly Peace, once closed to the public, and enter the magnificent Forbidden City, the imperial palace which was home to the Emperors of China and their concubines, eunuchs and servants for more than 500 years. Admire the grand halls, courtyards, temples and pavilions and continue into the domestic quarters where the rest of the household lived and worked. Continue to the striking red and gold Temple of Heaven, which represents the meeting place of Heaven and Earth and is where the emperors would perform sacrifices every year to ensure a good harvest. It is the grandest temple in Beijing and a perfect example of Ming architecture, designed according to ancient principles of symbolism and numerology. The tour ends with a visit to the lovely Summer Palace. Stroll through the beautiful gardens which were laid out by the notorious Empress Cixi, with no expense spared. The gardens contain bridges, lakes and pavilions, the famous Marble Boat and the exquisitely painted Long Corridor, which stretches along the lakeside and protects walkers from the elements. Return to your hotel in Beijing.
