Here you will see the remains of the Yusupov family’s unique collection of art, decorated halls and rooms and even the private theatre before continuing to the renowned Mariinsky Theatre for a special backstage tour. See the ornate auditorium from the Tsar’s Box, the splendid foyer and White Hall where the imperial guests would relax during the intervals. See how a performance is engineered and how the scenery is made, a unique opportunity to see scenery painting by famous Russian artists of the 19th and 20th centuries and the set-design area where they create the magical settings for all the performances. See the stage machinery, some of it 18th century but still working, and the props workshop where they make the Nutcracker rats and the swan figures from Swan Lake. The tour lasts around 5 hours.
